Everything about Nostale (MMORPG) - For beginners and curious people

About Nostale ( In progress )

Basic information
Nostale is a free 2D MMORPG with a cute anime graphic. It's published by Gameforge. The game is being updated frequently, it has maintenance once a week and many new events and items kept being added. Which is a good thing :).
History
It first came out in 2006 year and was Published by gamengame it was shut down with reason of developing game. Then in 2007 it has been published by Entwell as global server and got shut down with the reason of contract end, they were forced to shut down plenty of their games.
Worlds
Nostale is available in 8 languages. Each world has different number of servers and channels depending on the population. For example English server has 1 server and 5 channels, while German one has 3 servers and 7 channels. Also it's important to know that it's forbidden to talk in different language other than the language of the server in general chat and world chat. That means if you're on German server you can't speak english in general chat. While it's ok to use other languages in whisper, party chat, family chat, messages , notes.
Free players vs Paying players
The best thing about Nostale is that there's no difference between player who pays and player who doesn't. Paying players are needed to boost economy by buying item mall things and selling them to other players. Paying with real money can help you get some instant cash although there's no real huge advantage since there's many , many many ways of earning which everyone can do. There's a good balance between players, you get better by spending loads of time, reselling, saving or simply making good decisions in game. Money does help a lot, although rich unskilled player won't be invincible. Being skilled and understanding your class is important.

 Level cap
Currently max combat level is 99. Max champion level is 30 ( champions level is the +1 on screenshot), normal job is lvl 80 max and job on specialist has lvl 99 cap.

Character creation
-You can have 3 characters per account. And you are allowed to own and use more than one account. Although IP sharing is forbidden.

-At the beginning creation seems rather plain Gender, 2 hairstyles, 10 colours and a name. But as the game progress everyone can achieve their own original look. There will be information about it in this guide.

Classes

At the beginning once you have created a It's important to know that you need to take off all your equipment off and leave party in order to change class.
character you start with a class called Adventurer. Adventurer is the weakest class with equipment only up to lvl 18. It's possible not to change it, but it's advised to do so, in order to experience the most from the game. You can change class once you are lvl 15 with job 20. You have to talk to NPC called Mimi mentor which you get to know from the quests. Once you click on Mimi-Mentor choose Job-changing option, and select the class you want. There are 3 main classes in Nostale which are Swordsman, archer and mage. Once you change class you will also receive protection power angel/devil which can be changed later and will have a deeper meaning once you reach higher level.
Swordsman has high hp and low mp, it's the best tanking class in game. It can also become a powerful damage dealer. It specialises in short-attacking combat but it can also attack from distance since swordsman carries a sword and a crossbow. ( To attack with crossbow swordsman needs crossbow bolts which can be bought from Teoman Topp for 300 gold each. 1 bolt = 100 attacks)
Archer is a class with medium hp and medium mp. It's a main attacker in nostale, archer is the most powerful when he strikes critical damage. Archer can attack from distance with a bow, or attack from close range with a dagger. ( Archer uses arrows to attack which can be bought from Teoman top. Short-bow arrow increases attacking speed and costs 120 gold, while long-bow arrows increase attacking range and costs 500 gold. It's advised to use short-bow arrows at the beginning of the game, and possibly try long-bow ones when you need to chase target on pvp ground. 1 arrow = 100 attacks)
Mage has high mp and low hp, it's the main healer and supporter in game. Although it doesn't have to relay on others as it can also deal high magical damage.

 Quests

At the beginning of the game quests will serve as a tutorial to help you remember location of NPCs and guide you in exploring new maps, and teaching you new things. It will also be important source of EXP. Till lvl 55 quests are essential, they will give you Job exp and combat exp. Quests will be roughly giving you 80% combat exp after completing each main task,
which will leave you killing monsters to get the rest of exp.

Each quest is part of an arc story, currently there are 6 arcs.
1st arc - The Tree Of Fernon
2nd arc - The resurrection of the devils
3rd arc - The Arrival of the hyper dangerous creature
4th arc - Frozen Crown
5th arc - The Burning Sword
6th arc - Forgotten Archipelago
Quests are mainly about talking to NPCs, dropping quest items from monsters, killing x number of monsters, giving gold to NPC, walking to a certain location, completing time space, giving x materials to NPC. Some are harder than others and they aren't main focus of the game.

There are 3 types of quests.
Main quest - It's part of the game's story arc. It gives good exp, gold and item rewards.
Secondary quest - They are independent of the main quest as you can start 5 of them at the same time. Most common secondary quests can be obtained from act 5 map desert from various npcs . Also you can get secondary quest from sound flower which drops from monsters. Sound flower will also give you a special buff which will last 1 min or 10 min after you complete it. It will drastically increase your damage, it will increase the % of gold that you pick up from the ground and will increase the exp that you will receive.
General quest - It consists mainly of sp quests which you can receive from mysterious soul stones, daily quests 90+ on volcano map and desert, event quests, quests you can randomly receive on low level after completing main quest.
Time space
They are scattered around different maps, each time space has a level. It reflects the level needed to challenge time space. For example to complete time space level 30 you need at least lvl 30 first. You can't complete next time space if you haven't completed the previous one. For example if you haven't completed time space level 40 you can't do time space level 43. Time-space is part of every main quest.

To enter time-space you have to step on it. You cannot enter time-space in combat mode. Only in case you have created your own time-space you have to click on a word "click" above it.

Apart from the time-spaces that already exist you can create your own. To create a time-space you will need a stone which drops from monsters, you can either drop it or buy it from other players. There are time-spaces that are for getting raid seals called raid time-space, individual time-spaces for exp and reputation, group time-spaces for reputation, gold and exp. Hunting time-space for getting items and gold. Special time-spaces with bosses that you can earn from by getting expensive material from defeating a boss, reputation and some gold. The name of those time-spaces are Basilisk, Giant knight, chrysos. Each time space requires certain level range to create it ( apart from time-spaces with bosses, although rather high level is required to defeat them like 80+ is preferable and 90+ lvl would be even better). As well as materials, seeds, moons, stone. Apart from hunting stone which requires other special materials instead of moons like wolf mane, spider webs or pearls of darkness. As well as bosses which only require a stone.

Inside a time-space there are rooms which have portals leading to the next room. Your mission target is written on the side. Usually it asks you to protect an NPC and escape to exit.

Inside you will run into monsters. Sometimes you can avoid the battle if portal is opened, but at other times portal won't open till you defeat the enemies.

Once in a while you might run into a lever. To pull the lever you have to click on it. It will either unlock the portal or summon monsters.

After you complete the time space you will receive a reward. In a form of gold and items. There are 3 types of rewards Draw, special and bonus. In draw rewards you can only choose one reward blindly and you will get one of the ones listed. Special reward can be obtained only once after you have completed the time-space for the first time. Bonus reward as the name suggests is a reward you will get after completing time-space as a bonus.

Inventory

It's a backpack that will hold all the items you have picked up and obtained. It's split into 4 sections. Equip, main and etc section have 48 spaces each.

Equip section holds:
Fairies, hats, masks, armours, weapons, accessories (bracelet, necklace, ring), shoes, gloves, shells, amulets.

Main section:
Holds items like potions, arena of talent items, soul gems, cella powder, sand, gillions, speed and exp boosters, mounts, seeds, moons, fountain of saviour and so on.

ETC section
It mainly stores items for teleporting like bell of sweet home, wing of return, amulet of return, snacks, souls, food materials, arrows, wings, dowsing rod, luinia of restore, and mats that only certain monster drops, as well as coins.

Additional section
It keeps all your costumes and specialist/partner cards.

* 1 billion of gold is a limit in inventory.

Pets
At the beginning you got space for 10 pets.

It can be expanded with pet slot expansion. You can buy it from other players or item mall. Pet expansions expands space by additional 10 slots. Max number of pets you can have in total can be 30.

Pets fall into 2 categories. Pets that you can capture on general map, and the pets that you can buy.

Some monsters on general map are impossible to capture. To find out whether it's possible to catch it or not you have to select the monster. Then at the top of the screen next to a health bar you will see an icon with a net. If the icon is colourful it's possible to catch the monster, if it's grey it's impossible to catch it. This kind of pet is good at the beginning of the game, and sometimes it can be useful in events when boss takes hp by % and they can get their hp easily refilled.

The other category of pets can be bought either from players or from item mall. They are good at the later point of the game when you get involved in pvp, raids, mobbing.

Overall all pets are different from one another, they are different in skills, hp amount, debuffs, buffs, range ,looks and so on. When you save up money for a good pet it's important to consider everything so that pet can be your companion in every situation.

Overall there is a list of pets that became more popular than others.

Fibi - It can be a perfect partner for any class focused on attacking. It has big amount of hp, buff that increases attack by 10% and water resistance by 10. In attacking it has 5% chance of giving a freeze debuff. And in defending it has a 30% chance that damage from attacks will be reduced by 90%. The resistance it has is ok. 60% dark, 60% fire, light 70%, 80% water. It's not the best tanker but it's a great help in enhancing your damage. I only wouldn't recommend it for mages focused on healing and tankers.

Fluffy Bally - It's a pet that helps the most with tanking. I would recommend it for archers who are killing a lot of monsters alone, swordsman class if they rather tank with pet than their char, and possibly healers who would need something to protect them from damage. ( stats are on screenshot)
Chatting
To open the window for chatting you gotta press enter.
At the top of the window It says all, general, party, family, whisper, system. By selecting any of them you will make only that type of chat visible on your screen. If you select "All" you will see all types, if you select "party" you will see only party chat. It will help if you will want to stay focused on one type of chat.
At the bottom you can select where you want to talk. If you talk in general people around you will see what you are writing.
To whisper someone you have to know their name, and you can talk to them even if they are on different channel. You can't whisper someone if they added you on blacklist.
Family chat will allow you to talk with to your family members. Party chat let's you talk to people in your party.

In order to write to everyone on your channel you have to buy an item called "Speaker". Which can be bought from other players or item mall.

Buying/Selling

There is a special spot where selling and buying takes place. In main town noville you can see a red dot on mini map near mimi mentor, you can find a private shop area there. Once you enter it, it will be called market place.

First method to sell and buy items is to open a shop there. You can open a shop by pressing "K" , choosing motions and clicking on "Open shop" icon.

You get 20 spots to place your items for sale. And you can name a shop using 20 symbols max. It's best to place your shop near portal to make it easier to notice. This method should be used if you got expensive or a lot of items for sale. You can buy stuff using this method too. If you couldn't find what you wanted anywhere you can name your shop something like "B> good pet lvl 90". This method will work if you don't mind not using your char at that time. Perhaps overnight or when you're busy.
NosBazaar
It's the most popular and easiest way to buy and sell things. You can find bazaar in the middle of market place on left side, it's marked with red spot on mini-map. To use Bazaar click on NPC and choose NosBazaar.

Nosbazaar makes it easy to search for what you need. You can search items by typing the name, or by selecting category.
First it's important to know limits of nosbazaar. You can place 20 items and price per unit can't go over 1,000,000 max is 999,999. And item will stay on sale for 1 day. Beside that there's also a small listing fee for example if your total price gain would 3 mil then bazaar takes 15k away from you, it's very insignificant amount but to some people it matters.
It's possible though to go over that limit. You can buy a medal in nosbazaar, it will let you place up to 100 items and limit will rise up to 1 bil. As well as you will be able to keep items for sale up to 30 days. Actually in total you can get 60 days. For example if your medal lasts 30 days, 5 min before it expires you can place your item for 30 days again.

There are 12 main categories in Nosbazaar, and each category has its subcategory. It makes searching for things very easy. Beside that you can choose level of item, rarity, upgrade level. Also you can choose to search to search from lowest to highest price or from highest to lowest price, or even if you wish to you can choose by the amount from highest amount of items for sale to lowest. It's helpful if you are interested only in stacks and not in individual pieces.

Specialists
It's the most important and unique system in Nostale. It's important to understand everything clearly about it.

Each basic class (Warrior,Mage,Archer) *Adventurer doesn't* have their own special classes in a form of cards. That you can transform into, which you can sell, buy, trade, keep in inventory for later or transferred via warehouse to other characters on same account. ( To transform into a specialist once you wear it you have to press "G" on keyboard)

Cards can be obtained from quests and raids. First four basic cards can be obtained from quests.

You can get your first card at level 36 job 20, second card at level 46 job
30, third card at level 55 job 50, fourth card at level 65 job 55. Other cards can be obtained from raids. Raids can be mainly attended by lvls 90+, lower levels can get the rest of cards by spending a little of money. I would advise to buy card instead of gambling by trying random boxes to get it. To wear sp 5 you need job 60 and for the rest of sps job 70.

Each card has one of the elements fire, water, dark, light. Each element is superior or inferior to one another. (Light is good against darkness, weak against water.)( Fire is good against water, weak
against darkness. )(Darkness is good against light, weak against Fire.)(Water is good against fire and weak against light.)

Swordsman has cards called warrior, ninja, crusader, berserk, gladiator, battle monk, death reaper, renegade.

Archer has cards called ranger, assassin, destroyer, wild keeper, fire cannoneer, scout, demon hunter, avenging angel.

Mage has cards called the red magician, the holy mage, blue magician, the dark gunner, volcano, tide lord, seer, archmage.

Cards have jobs level, leveling your card till lvl 20 unlocks all your skills. Once your card reaches level 21 you can upgrade it. Upgrading your cards will give you wings. You can upgrade your card up to +15 max. The higher the plus the bigger wings you get.

There's also a perfection level which you can raise by obtaining special gems for that. Gems
can be obtained from random boxes from raids. Sp raids and frozen crown raids.
Once you reach level 21 you will get your first 3 points on your card to contribute, then each time you will level you will receive more points. To contribute ur points tranform into ur card, right click on ur card, click on "up", then you can start adding your points. HP/MP option will raise both your mp and hp by %. Element will increase your elemental damage, this means you
will have stronger damage against the element you are superior to, defence and attack will raise your stats. Also increasing certain option will give you bonuses. Attack rises your accuracy and deathblow rate apart from just attack power. You have to choose carefully your options each has their own advantage.

Other specialists.

There's also a chicken specialist - You can get this card for Chicken King raid. It's a fun SP. It increases your running speed. And has only 2 skills, one skill is an attack skill which chicken does by jumping on the ground, 2nd is clucking a buff removal skill (It can also be used to tease
people to make their character stand up if they are sitting, by using the skill after selecting them). You can wear card with job level 1. (Adventurer can wear it too)

The pyjama specialist card - You can get it by completing special quest to get it. You can get the quest from mysterious soul stone at sunny meadows. Level requirement is 27. You can wear the sp with job 10 (Adventurer can wear it too). It's mainly a fun sp that attacks with pillow and skills focus on laying and things like reading a book. This SP is also required to participate in winter event to fight a snowman boss.

The pirate specialist card - You can get this sp during a summer event Pete O'Peng. Either by trying to get it from raid or by gambling with NPC Jack Penon.Job level required to wear it is 10. (Adventurer can wear it too)

Jajamaru - It's an sp that can be obtained by completing a quest. You can get quest once you reach level 45. It requires job 38 to wear it. You can get a quest at main plains from NPC called Yobby Exp miner. NPC is located at the top of the map by comet meadow. Jajamaru is required for Namaju raid and Chicken king raid.

Reputation
Reputation is a thing that you will obtain and lose throughout entire game. You can check what's ur and other player's reputation by checking character information. There's no limit of reputation. It ranges from 0 to infinity. You can gain reputation from quests, all kinds of time-spaces, killing other players in act 4 and raids. Getting reputation can be time consuming.

The higher your reputation is the cooler your icon by your name looks. Top 3 players have a Hero reputation and the rest of top 40 players get Legendary reputation.

Reputation can make you either stand out or make you blend in the crowd.

Each reputation rank is also segregated by colour. Green is the lowest, blue is the middle rank and red is the highest rank.

You can lose reputation by getting killed at act 4.

Family

It's a Nostale version of a guild. Family is quite significant as it lets you do things a famless person can't do.

There are 4 positions a person can have in a Family.

- Family Head. It's the owner of the Family, person with highest authority. They can kick, invite players, they can change position of other players and they can even dismiss a family. Basically family head is a leader.

- Family Deputy. It's the right hand of the head. Deputy holds the most power after head. If head allows they can do everything apart from dismissing a family. Usually each family has 2 deputies. Deputies are in charge when head is offline.

- Family keeper. It's a position mainly for recruiting players. Although it depends on a family, some could give keeper more responsibilities than that.

- Member. It's a position with lowest authority.
The only thing a member can do is see the
history of family. This includes: Seeing who left, who joined, if someone upgraded something, if someone leveled, if family leveled, if family completed a raid and things like that. All the other family members with higher position can see that too.

Every family has a level which ranges from 1 to 10. Family can be leveled by taking part in instant battle and raids. Higher family level allows you to buy family enhancements, only Family head can buy them.
Family enhancements include extending the
number of family members ( Max possible number of members is 100 with enhancements, every family starts with space for 50 people). As well as expanding family warehouse.

Main advantages that a family brings are:
LOD  (land of death) it's a leveling ground. For leveling from lvl 55 to lvl 90. It's located at sunset cliff. Leveling has to be done in groups at lower levels.
Act 4 raids - There are glaceron raids water/fire/light/dark raids. Which can be challenged only as a family. From raids you can get shells, equipments and other things. It's popular among players because getting raidbox rare 7 (legendary) is a guarantee for big money. Players are willing to pay 50+ million for such box. Unfortunately chance to drop rare 7 is low. Other rarities can get you some money too though, rare 5 (ancient) roughly 1 million, rare 6 (mysterious) roughly 3 million.

Also every family is competing with each other to get a good place in ranking. Main ranking is based on the total reputation within a family. Reputation of all the members is being added up. There are also other rankings about getting most family exp in a month and in total.
